INRAE and the International Society for Horticultural Science (ISHS) organised the First International Symposium on Apricot and Plum, April 22-26, 2024, in Avignon, France. This symposium on the genetics, breeding and cultivation of apricot and plum was dedicated to the entire scientific research and development community as well as to the private sector working on these two Prunus species. The event was held in the historic Palais des Papes.

The three-day program included sessions on the following topics:

  • Economy and Market Situation
  • Genetic Resources, Genetics, and Genomics
  • Biology and Climate Risk Assessment
  • Pests and Diseases Control
  • Postharvest and Quality of Fresh and Processed Fruit
  • Orchard Management
  • Breeding and Evaluation of Cultivars and Rootstocks

FruitDiv consortium partners were present at the symposium and had the opportunity to present the project’s objectives via a poster session and an on-site demonstration of experiments conducted on the wild apricot core-collection at the Gotheron research unit. This on-site demonstration was part of the conference’s last day which was dedicated to visits including also the SEFRA regional fruit research station, a stakeholder round table at Lycée Valentin, and the discovery of a historic Grignan castle.
